Hanino was born in Oujda, a Moroccan town next to the Algerian border. He grew up over there whilst his father emigrated to France. At the age of 9, Hanino joined his father in Lille. Far from his mother, his first year there was really tough. He did not go to school and did not speak French. He therefore felt really lonely. After his family was reunited in the North of France, Hanino got better and started to sing. His family is composed of about twelve singer and musician cousins who regularly brought him to wedding parties. In 1992, still living in Lille, Hanino joined « Oxygène » : a Raï band, which rapidely got a strong local notoriety and played as the support act of IAM’s gigs. Hanino then created his own Raï-Reggae band « El Hanane » (tenderness). He recorded his first tape in Morocco in 1997, beside his favorite singers, the Bouchenak Brothers and started to be famous. Cheb Mami then noticed his talent and offered him to be the support act of his own concerts, therefore representing Nanino’s Godfather on stage.
