René Lacaille

René Lacaille

He was the son of a musician playing for proms. He grew up in a family of instrumentalists and started on stage at the age of 7. In love with the accordion since his childhood, he also plays the percussions, the drum, the guitar and the saxophone. At the age of 20, he created « Caméléon », the first band to mix traditional sounds from the Réunion and modern rhythms from the West. He contributed to what we call the Electric Maloya. He would play in prom orchestras and Jazz clubs before joining the Parisian cabarets. Even if he exiled to the Metropolitan France in the eighties, he often comes back to his home island and multiplies collaborations : Bob Brozman, Manu Dibango, Ray Lema, l’ONB, Danyél Waro…
