Born in the Medina of Tunis, Anouar Brahem has learnt the lute for 10 years in The National Conservatoire of Music, beside Ali Sriti. At the age of 15, he played in different orchestras. In 1921, Anouar Brahem settled in Paris and collaborated with Maurice Béjart. He also composed many unusual showpieces. Back to Tunisia, he carried on composing and gained a public notoriety between 1985 and 1990. He then went on tour in the United States and in Canada.
