Carmen Cortès comes from a Gypsy family. From the earliest age she took part of community parties, where Flamenco was considered as the most important practice. Passionate by dance, she joined the National School of Dance, where she discovered other dancing genres : classical and contemporary dancing as well as castanets. Carmen became the first dancer of the Mario Maya Company. She then created her own company and produced performances she presented all around the world. Amongst them she created « A Contraluz » : a work known for its avant-gardism, « Flamenco-Flamenco » in which she pays a tribute to all the Flamenco practices, , « Yerma » influenced by the dramatic story of Federico Garcia Lorca and « Salomé » influenced by the work Oscar Wilde. She has always worked in partnership with her husband Gerardo Nunez, a guitarist with whom she organizes prestigious training courses of Flamenco.
