Traditional Music - Folk
This Festival was created in 1976 by the George Sand Committee to celebrate the centenary of her death. The group decided to revive the places where her novels take place. To pay a tribute to her work, bagpipes players get together in the Château of St Chartier. The Georges Sand Committee is organizing this Festival in order to celebrate traditional music. The purpose of the event is to bring together professional musicians and amateurs, dancers and stringed instrument makers as a way to promote the arts of bagpipes, hurdy-gurdies, diatonic accordions…During the Festival, concerts, jam sessions, proms and an exhibition on the arts of stringed instrument makers are organized by some artists and craftsmen from all over Europe. Every year, for four days, the Château of St Chartier hosts a very unique event full of festivities as an attempt to perpetuate old traditions.
